Jared Octala

Jared Octala

Before becoming a criminal defense attorney, Jared Octala spent years building criminal cases from the other side of the courtroom.

As a former Miami-Dade prosecutor, Jared investigated, evaluated, negotiated, and tried criminal cases ranging from DUI and drug offenses to trafficking, violent crimes, and other serious felonies. Today, he brings that experience to Joshi Law Firm, P.A., using his understanding of how prosecutors think, prepare, and make decisions to build strategic defenses for clients throughout Florida.

During five years with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, Jared developed extensive courtroom and trial experience, trying more than fifteen felony jury trials to verdict. His felony caseload included narcotics trafficking, robbery, carjacking, sexual battery, violent offenses, and other serious criminal charges.

Jared was also selected to serve as a specialized prosecutor in the Narcotics Unit, where he worked with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on complex drug investigations and trafficking cases. His experience included working with agencies such as the DEA, FBI, HSI, FDLE, and local police departments, handling substantial-assistance matters, evaluating complex investigations, and advising law enforcement on issues involving Florida narcotics law. He also trained law enforcement officers and served as a resource to other prosecutors handling drug trafficking cases.

His experience extends beyond serious felony and narcotics prosecutions. Jared developed a significant background in DUI cases and later served in a leadership role as an Assistant Chief, helping supervise and train more than fifty prosecutors. That combination of trial experience, specialized narcotics work, DUI knowledge, and prosecutorial leadership gives Jared a perspective that few attorneys can develop from studying criminal law alone.

Jared understands that every criminal case has strengths, weaknesses, and a strategy behind it. Having spent years making decisions on behalf of the State, he knows the questions prosecutors ask when evaluating evidence, deciding how aggressively to pursue a case, negotiating a resolution, and preparing for trial.

Now, he asks those questions from the defense side.

For Jared, effective representation means more than reacting to the State’s case. It means examining how the investigation was conducted, identifying weaknesses in the evidence, anticipating the prosecution’s strategy, and developing a plan designed around the individual client and the circumstances of the case.

Based in Orlando and representing clients throughout Florida, Jared focuses his practice on criminal defense, including DUI, drug and trafficking offenses, and serious felony cases. He approaches every case with a commitment to preparation, straightforward advice, strategic advocacy, and the understanding that a criminal charge can affect far more than what happens inside a courtroom.
